A Yamaha generator is a tool, and like any other tool, it’s important to choose the most effective one for the job. You could remove a splinter with a chainsaw, but the end result will be a lot better if you use a pair of tweezers. Likewise, you should use the most appropriate portable generator for the job.
You’ll have to take several factors into consideration. Will you be carrying your generator for some distance or will you be able to transport it in a vehicle? If the latter is not an option then you’ll want to consider a smaller, lighter model like the Yamaha EF1600, which can easily be carried by two people. You’ll also have to consider your power consumption needs. If you are working on a construction site then a compact generator like the Yamaha EF2600 will probably not have enough power however a more robust model like the Yamaha EF6600A would have more than enough.
By taking the time to determine the most effective Yamaha portable generator to provide the power you need, you will reduce unnecessary bulk and cost and still get the most from your equipment.

Yamaha has introduced a new model to their family: the Yamaha EF2400iS. It is a quiet and fairly lightweight inverter model. It rings in at 53-58dBA and weighs about 70 lbs. The Smart Throttle will help you maximize each tank of gas by running only as high as it needs to power your demand. The size is perfect for larger RV air conditioners and can power most 13,500BTU units, and of course nearly all below that. The EF2400iS is powered by a Yamaha 5.5 hp engine and is supplied with a 1.6 gallon fuel tank that will run for approximately 8 1/2 hours according to Yamaha.

A portable generator can be useful, sometimes even essential for many people in many different situations. You may think that they would only be useful to construction workers on a job site however there are many cases where a portable generator can be extremely useful.
As we witnessed during this year’s onslaught of hurricanes and tropical storms, the likelihood of loosing electrical power can be very high. Once this happens, it doesn’t take long for perishable foods to spoil since there is no way to refrigerate them — often leaving a family with little or no food. By using a portable generator to keep your refrigerator running you will be able to save your family’s food during inclement weather. They can also be used to power electrical heating units, stoves and critical life support equipment such as respirators.
Portable generators can also be used in business. As business owners, we often rely on our computer data and if forced to recover our emails, financial documents and our contact data bases after a computer crash caused by a power outage, we can be left with a tremendous bill. However if we have the foresight to invest in a portable generator that will provide power so that we can properly shut down our computers, the chance that we will lose critical data is significantly reduced.
On a brighter note, you can also take advantage of the benefits that a portable generator can provide during leisure activities such as camping and cookouts.

Because different models of portable generators are capable of delivering different amounts of power, it is important to choose one that will deliver enough power, or even slightly more power than you need.
To do this you will need to know what appliances you plan to operate simultaneously from your generator and then determine how many watts they need to operate. This information will be listed on a label somewhere on the appliance in most cases or in the user manual. Keep in mind that the wattage required to start an appliance is often higher than what is required to operate it. To compensate for variance you should utilize a portable generator that can handle an operating load at least 10% higher than you anticipate needing.
By choosing the most effective Yamaha portable generator for your needs, you will reduce your costs, weight and space required while maintaining enough power to meet your needs. You will also extend the life of your generator by not overworking it, and in some cases, the life of the appliances that are running off of it because some types of appliances can be damaged when operated without enough power.

While a quality portable generator can be a vital piece of equipment during a power outage, it can also be very hazardous if not used properly. Therefore, it’s important to know the risks associated with a portable generator so that you and your family can prevent or avoid them.
The first and probably the most common risk is carbon monoxide poisoning. This can cause you to feel sick, dizzy, or weak, and with further exposure, can cause death. To avoid this you will need to ensure that you do not operate your generator indoors and also ensure that the exhaust fumes from a generator operating outdoors do not flow into your home. For optimal safety, install battery-operated CO (carbon monoxide) alarms in your home.
There are also various risks associated with shock and electrocution. To avoid these types of risks, there are a few simple precautions that you must follow.
- Ensure that your generator remains dry
- Plug you electrical appliances directly into your generator. If you must use an extension cord you should use a heavy duty, outdoor rated cord capable of handling the load that you are using. Make sure that the entire cord is free of nicks or cuts.
- Never use your generator to “back feed” your house wiring. This is extremely dangerous because it bypasses your built-in household circuit protection devices. Also, it poses a serious presents an electrocution risk to utility workers and neighbors served by the same utility transformer
To avoid risks associated with fire, do not store fuel for your generator in your home and always allow your generator to cool down before refueling.

After seeing multiple hurricanes last year, we know now, more than ever that we need to be prepared for the worst. During and after a hurricane we can often be without power for a considerable time and while there are obvious inconveniences associated with that, there can also be many not so obvious health concerns as a result.
A loss of power will of course mean that we can’t enjoy some of the luxuries that we’ve grown accustomed to such as television, air conditioning or email, but it also means that our perishable foods will last for a considerably shorter time. If we don’t have enough non-perishable food to sustain us then we could be forced to either go hungry or eat food that may not be 100% safe. However with proper planning, we can utilize a portable generator to keep our refrigerator running and ensure that our food stays fresh and safe to eat.
Often times a loss of power is accompanied by a loss of potable drinking water. Non-potable water can be purified by boiling it, however this requires electricity. A portable generator will allow you to boil the water you need and ensure a steady supply of clean, safe water for you and your family.
A portable generator will also allow you to cook your food, which aside from ensuring a safe meal, will also provide some degree of comfort during this difficult time. Unless you have been without power for an extended time before, you may underestimate how much impact this can have on your family’s mood.
There are also a number of smaller benefits that you’ll gain, such as the ability to charge your electric razor, run a radio or lights, and even your water heater for a nice hot shower. The bottom line is that with a portable generator, you will help to ensure that your family stays as comfortable as possible during an extended power outage.

Portable generators are generally pretty solid and dependable, but like any other piece of machinery they need a certain amount of maintenance to operate efficiently and last for their expected lifetime. Fortunately, the maintenance required for most portable generators is relatively simple.
Some of the more common problems you will run into with any portable generator are associated with your fuel, more specifically, dirty fuel which can be prevented through proper storage and by ensuring that you have a clean fuel filter installed. Generators that are stored in dusty locations are particularly vulnerable to this problem, but this is easily remedied by covering them with a tarp, sheet or blanket during storage. To prevent dirty fuel from entering your generator to begin with you should store it in an OSHA approved fuel storage container.
Another factor in the maintenance of your portable generator is proper lubrication. Moving parts will wear, but you can minimize this wear and increase the life of your generator by ensuring that they are lubricated with the approved lubricants. You should make sure that the proper oil level is maintained at all times, and should regularly top off frequently used generators. Oil changes should occur according to the schedule in the generator owner’s manual at the least. Also be observant of the oil consistency and clarity. If the oil is black and opaque, it’s time to change it.
You should also check the air filter to ensure both that it is clean and unobstructed. A dirty air filter will allow dust and dirt particles to enter the engine, increasing wear and decreasing the life of your generator. Additionally, a dirty or obstructed air filter will cause your generator to run inefficiently and consume more fuel than necessary.
With proper maintenance, you will benefit from a portable generator that will run efficiently for a long time to come.
